ANKARA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO ORGANIZE A SEMINAR TO INFORM MEMBERS ABOUT THE GREEN DEAL, SUSTAINABLE REPORTING, CARBON BORDER ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM, AND ESG ISSUES
ATO PRESIDENT BARAN: "WE AIM TO INCREASE OUR SHARE IN GLOBAL TRADE BY ENSURING OUR COMPANIES ARE FULLY PREPARED FOR THE NEW ERA"
07-11-2024- Members of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) who wish to participate in the seminar, which will be held at the ATO Assembly Hall on November 7, can register via the ATO website and attend for free.
The Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) will organize a seminar to prepare its members for the green transformation process. The seminar, to be held on November 7 at the ATO Assembly Hall, will address topics such as the "Green Deal", "Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism", "Sustainable Reporting Standards", and "Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)" issues. ATO members who wish to attend can register on the ATO website in the events section and participate for free.
The Ankara Chamber of Commerce continues its efforts to prepare its members for the EU's Green Deal program, announced in 2019, in line with the targets set in the fight against climate change. Under the Green Deal, the EU aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. The EU is preparing to implement the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which started its transition period on October 1, 2023, and will finalize its application on January 1, 2026. This mechanism will directly affect Turkey, which exports over 40% of its goods to EU countries. In this context, the Ankara Chamber of Commerce is organizing the seminar titled "Latest Developments in the World of Sustainability", where the latest trends, regulations, and strategies regarding the Green Deal, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Sustainable Reporting Standards, and ESG issues will be discussed.
"IF WE MANAGE THIS PROCESS EFFICIENTLY, WE CAN OPEN NEW TRADE DOORS"
In his assessment of the issue, ATO President Gürsel Baran emphasized that the EU is one of Turkey's most important trading partners and stressed the importance of preparing companies for this process. Baran reminded that the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism will initially cover sectors such as iron-steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizers, electricity, and hydrogen, and will expand its scope over time. He stated, "We should view this process as an opportunity for the development of all our sectors. Today, if we can successfully navigate this transformation, which may seem challenging, especially for our SMEs, we could break significant milestones in the global economy and open new trade doors. As the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, we want to prepare our members for the new era in all areas, from production to trade, from tourism to finance, and sustainability reporting standards, and become the global leader in the green transformation process. By ensuring that our companies are fully prepared for the new era, we aim to increase our share in global trade."
